That’s right I finally did it. What you might ask, well I finally got to meet the Pioneer Woman, Ree Drumond. It was fantastic. For the last several years I have been an avid reader and follower of Ree’s blog The Pioneer Woman. She is a fantastic blogger, writer and chef. She has written two cookbooks, a novel and a children’s book.
I am a fan of all her recipes, they are down to earth real food with ingredients that I can get in my small town grocery store.
Her novel “Black Heels, to Tractor Wheels,” is a light hearted read that is enjoyable. I actually consider it a must read for anyone whether they are an avid reader or not. It reads easy and will definitely make you laugh. If you haven’t read it I recommend that you get to the library or bookstore and pick up a copy.
The children’s book she wrote is called “Charlie the Ranch Dog.” We have this book as an electronic format on our nook and it is a must read for Cooper he loves the story because it is about a dog on a ranch, but also because the nook version has animation and Ree herself narrates the story.
Anyway to get back on track, Ree was scheduled to be in Wichita KS for a book signing for the release of her newest cookbook. One to never miss a perfect opportunity to achieve a goal (insert laugh), I quickly got in contact with some people to arrange for a girls night to see the Ree and of course eat dinner out.
To begin the evening Ree began by talking about the history of her blog and how she got started. We were sitting off to the side and I was unable to get a picture of her as she spoke, but she is just as funny in person as she writes on her blog and in her books. After she spoke she took a couple of minutes to get set up so that she could sign books. She signed all the books you brought and even stayed late after the signing to sign books people had left instead of waiting to get her to sign them personally.
Our group waited about two hours before we got to the table to get our books signed. We each got to say a few words and have our picture taken with Ree.
We also got to have a group picture taken. From left to right back row: Deb, Molly, Monica, and Lynette. Front Row: Sherri, Ree, and Me.
After getting Ree to sign our books we got our pictures taken with Cowboy Josh. He had traveled from the ranch to Wichita with Ree and we were excited to get to meet him also.
Then it was off to PF Changs for dinner. We had an enjoyable dinner and then headed for home. We laughed and had so much fun. We were the last people to leave the restaurant and in fact I am surprised they didn’t kick us out because we were there until almost 45 minutes after closing.
Definitely need to get this group together again.
